My Recent Journey

As you have probably noticed I have been missing in action for the last several months. I have been on a personal journey in intimate reflection and pursuit of God.  During this time I have taken a break from teaching and writing as to focus all my attention upon my pursuit. At the beginning of the year my pastor gave a prophetic word that we as believers were to press in to God emphasizing the first few months would be crucial to setting us up for our future. Later, I heard the same word spoken by Chuck Pierce and it was affirmed in my heart to be a word for me. As I write this I cannot believe that was almost a year ago. It is hard to describe what happen within me when I heard that word. At first it gave me a sense of frustration- like what does that mean? How do I press in? How do I set myself up for the best future? Those thoughts caused me to contemplate the many such words I have heard over the years of my life.

The prophetic word sounds so exciting when it is spoken and we say yes that’s right on, I receive that. And then too often, in many cases, time just seems to slip away with no apparent result. Perhaps, we may see something come to pass that resembles the “prophet word” or we say something must have occurred within the spirit realm that we just were not able to see or we explain it away in its delay over time. Then we try to assure ourselves that it will come to pass in the future or worse, we just forget about it all together as if it were never spoken. But, that is not what I want to focus on today.

Once the frustration, questions and yes I must confess- doubt subsided, I set my heart upon fully embracing this prophet word. I determined in my heart and spirit to press in at any cost to fully realize this word and be assured to set myself up for the future God had for me. I had no idea, at the time, what that would encompass and what It would cost me. However, it was abundantly clear to me there would be no turning back and there would be no settling for anything other than the completion of what God wanted to achieve within me to set me up for His purpose.

I have learned many lessons on this journey that I truly feel have changed the way I see the world, religion and the Kingdom. Those lessons are setting me up to walk in the fullness of God’s specific plan for me. I have seen things in myself that I didn’t realize were there, that I have to admit, I didn’t like. I have discovered things I was not viewing from the perspective of God’s Kingdom that had become a hindrance to me. God has also exposed some mindsets that were rooted in religion not love that I most definitely needed to change.

On the brighter side, as declared in Romans 5:5, “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in my heart by the Holy Spirit who was given to me”. God’s love and peace has renewed my heart and set me on a beautiful path as I embark on another year. I hope to share many of these lessons I have learned in the coming year in hopes that they will encourage and bless you as they have me.

As I now ponder the time of year we are in, celebrating the birth of our Savior, I turn to a favorite passage, Isaiah 9:2-7. “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder. For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor. Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this”.

Let us keep at the fore front of our mind that Jesus came as the light of the world to dispel darkness and now we are to be that light to all those we come in contact with during this Christmas season and into the New Year.

My prayer for each of us this year is that we fully walk in His light, being light, that we may live a life of freedom and love.

Some of us look at the coming New Year with great excitement and anticipation of things to come or perhaps, just looking forward to a fresh start with all our New Year’s resolutions. Others however, look upon the New Year as just seeing another year passing with unfulfilled dreams, setbacks, or disappointments. No matter which category you find yourself in, it is important for all of us to take time, as the previous year has come to an end, to work through some things with God. Look back over all the good things that have happened and say, “Thank you God”, giving Him praise for all His goodness. Make note of the areas that you have experienced improvement in and thank God for His grace that has empowered you. Take some time to assess any areas of your life that you recognize a need to develop, like spending more time with loved ones or taking more time in God’s Word each day. Then ask for the Holy Spirit’s help in walking out those things identified. And finally, take a moment to look at any unresolved disappointment in the year gone by. Do not ignore these things or suppress them but instead, lift them up to the Heavenly Father that truly loves you and cares about every aspect of and hurt in your life and heart. Determine not to carry any unresolved issues from last year into your New Year. Those things we do not lay at the feet of Jesus will only contaminate the newness and anticipation of greater things in 2014. Look at your unfulfilled dreams and ask the Lord for new vision or creative ideas for a re-birth of those dreams or perhaps, He will give you a new one. There is nothing to be gained by giving up, settling in, or succumbing to the oppression that disappointment can bring by not surrendering it all into the hands of a loving God. But, strength, favor, and blessing does come to all who stand firm, press through and hold tight to the promises and plans of God. So declare with me that 2014 will be a year of Great Grace and breakthrough as your hope is renewed in a God that truly sees you and desires for your joy to be fulfilled in Him!
